In honor of Valentine's Day we put together a few Sassy Boudoir Mini Sessions and BAM the slots filled up in a few hours!
Words cannot describe how much fun I had with all of you Sassy Girls! It was like one big dress up-slumber party.

I was anxious to see him. What would he think of my dress? Where were my shoes? Did the flowers arrive yet?
Did I remember everything? Then as the worrying started to build, one of my brides maid handed me a folded
note... from Kurt. It read, "I can't wait for you to be my wife. I love you!" *big sigh* and all of my fears melted away...
Seven years later and I'm thrilled to be your wife!

There is something about seeing your little ones meet Mickey and Minnie for the first time that makes you act like a kid again.
It's those famous cartoon characters we have grow to love that are walking, some talking and oh so huggable, right in front
of our eyes that makes us so giddy.

This past week we went on a little family vacation to Disneyland. I haven’t been since I was FIVE. Yes, yes I know… Crazy!
It was about time! So this leads me into my next, Love It or Leave It installment: Disneyland

Theresa and the kids (part 1) | Roseville Family Photographer

"I would love photographs of us around the house...just playing around and lounging. I want him to have a piece of us while he's gone." Theresa explained. Him being her husband, Steven who is finishing up another six month service in Iraq as a civilian contractor.
My heart skipped a beat and I thought, "Wow, what a wonderful gift to give." I was honored.

So that's what we did... we hung out at the house, played and captured some beautiful moments for Steven to hold onto.

We have waited a 120 years for this... | Personal

We knew it had snowed over night…you could feel it. Jumping up, Kurt, Maddie and I peered through the blinds to see the glorious white wonderland outside. It was six inches of amazing white powder to be exact. The phone rang and Maddie’s teacher said, "Snow Day!" That’s all we needed to hear. We bounded down the stairs in excitement, throwing on whatever “snow clothes” we could find and had a super fun snow day out front with the rest of the neighborhood.

We later learned that it had been over 120 years since it had snowed this much at our elevation. 120 years! We're making history!

The little pitter-patter of feet climbing the stairs resounded in my ears; they are always the first wake up in the morning. Then it was the sound of glassware tinking, followed by a sweet choir of voices, "Happy Birthday Mommy!" Pulling themselves on top of the bed and scurrying under the covers, my beautiful kiddos giggled and bombarded me with hundreds of exclamations and questions.
"Mom, we brought you breakfast! Do you like it? Happy Birthday! Are you awake?"

Chelsea glanced over her shoulder and spotted a Starbucks. Knowing she only had ten to fifteen minutes to grab a bite to eat before boarding the plane she quickly made her way to the back of the line. It was her eyes that captured him…and then a double glance. “Hurry quick say something,” Lars thought as the moment lingered…

“Oh, I’m getting so old,” he jokingly blurted as he moved his computer bag from one shoulder to the other. Chelsea laughed and knew he was not only a handmade fellow but a charming one at that. The two of them chatted for a few minutes and then Lars heard over the announcements that his plane was calling final boarding. “If you’re ever in LA look me up,” Lars said with a grin as he handed her his business card. He thought about her the whole flight...hoping she would call.

“Two and a half weeks later, this guy was still on my mind. I had to contact him.”

Lars and Chelsea, your evening wedding was amazing! I am so excited for the two of you as you venture into life together.
You both have a beautiful zest....love it! Thank you for honoring me as your photographer.

their engagement session last week. Chris had me laughing so hard I could barely focus and I know Cathy would agree
that laughter is the spice in their relationship, "I love Chris' sense of humor! He makes me laugh all the time!
I also love that he adores me and will do anything to make me happy! What girl wouldn't love that? He's generous
and thoughtful, considerate, and sweet. He's perfect for me!"

Tai + Lukas | Davis Engagement Photographer

The ring burned a "hole" in his pocket for a full month before their vacation to Hawaii. Lukas knew that this trip together would
change their lives forever... and this was exciting! It was there on the beautiful white sandy beach he knew the time was perfect.

"She wasn't like any other girl I had met. I knew I loved Tai and I wanted to marry her," Lukas explained to me after
the engagement session. A huge grin spread across Tai's face and her eyes twinkled as she leaned into the conversation and said,
"Oooh, I have never really asked him how he knew. Lukas, is so wonderful! I love him so much. I couldn't ask for more."

Adrianne + Tony | Vacaville Wedding Photographer

It was Friday when I received a twitter message from the Wedding Chicks (soon to be brides: check them out) that a local photographer had been in a horrible motorcycle accident and his client’s wedding was the following day. I replied to the twitter message and twenty minutes later the phone rang... it was Adrianne. I can't even imagine what she was feeling at that time. We had a wonderful chat, emailed information and paperwork back and forth and twenty four hours later I was photographing Adrianne and Tony's beautiful wedding day in Vacaville.

What an amazing couple! So in love! You could feel a sense of assurance and peace in the room during the afternoon preparation.
The two of them expressed to me that they just knew... this was it! From their first date of Streets of London and Scrabble
they knew they had found their best friend, no need for the jitters.

Tony is an incredible singer/songwriter and had prepared to seranade Adrianne... a little warm up.

Last Friday evening I met Bryan, Sarah, Audrey and Mason in Old Folsom for their family session.
They are old friends of mine, but we don't get to see each other that often because of our crazy schedules...
thank God for Facebook! So, when we do find time to hang out, it's a treat. It is so much fun to see how much

We Will Never Forget | Personal

Journaling is good for the soul. Releasing thoughts, ideas and emotions onto paper is healing.
On September 11, 2001 hours after the Twin Towers and Pentagon were hit I wrote this in my journal:

“The world has been shaken and its roots lie within our soil. The unthinkable has happened and we stand with our mouths wide open, gasping for clean air. Everywhere you turn there is some form of news: Calls are being received from cell phones down within the basements of the World Trade Center. Ten police officers rescued. Over one hundred bodies found within the first few hours. I had the privilege of visiting ground zero and photographing the area a month after September 11th.
Granted these pictures are shots taken from my album so they are not original files
but I hope it reminds you of our lost heroes and where we were as a nation not long ago.

Let us honor those we lost eight years ago today…and always.

My Bucket List? | Personal

So this bucket list note has been circling Facebook and I rarely do these, fill in your answers thing, but the bucket list really
made me think. First of all for anyone who doesn't know what a bucket list is it's
a bunch of things you want to do before you "kick the bucket."

Do you have a list? I only have one in the back of my head...fleeting thoughts like, "Oh, I need to do that someday!" or "I have always wanted to learn another language." Does it take a drastic thought like dying to make you jump into action?

These questions went through my head as I tried to come up with my own bucket list. I was swarmed with sadness and grief as I thought hard and long about my "future endeavorers". Then I came to the conclusion to forget the dumb bucket list! Throw it out...recycle it! Look at everything I have done! Why live in regret when I can be proud of my accomplishments. I am living a full and complete life and I will continue to do so everyday.

A few things I have done in life...

that this Sassy-Fancy Nancy, ME was a river and rock climbing guide...fifteen years ago.

We lived at the river, showered outdoors, wore Tevas all day: every day, slave dogged long hours...but I enjoyed every moment of the five seasons I worked with Rock N Water. What an awesome experience I had not only physical but spiritually. Life was simple… no TV, no cell phone, no IPOD… (most of those weren't even invented though) nothing just you, your fellow staff members and the awesome campers that came to experience life on the end. There is something about being in nature that draws you closer to God.

Last weekend Kurt and I had an awesome time dipping our feet into the world of Rock N Water again and reunite with all the past 20 years of employees . It was a super fun day of food, fun and rafting. Despite being a bit out of shape and a little tuckered out, the reunion was a blast.

Now that our Maddie is well over four years old and sweet Jacob is eighteen months we thought it would be a wonderful time to photograph them at this stage. So, the other day we went to our local town centre and cruised the sidewalks...

Madelyn is a spunky eighteen year old trapped in a four year old's body. She surprises us daily with her deep thoughts and challenging questions. This summer she has enjoyed swimming, our library (favorites books are I Spy and Where's Waldo), farmer's market visits, playing with her neighborhood friends, day camp and vacation bible school. She absolutely LOVES to draw and color...everyday. We have a huge stack of her beautiful artwork that we rotate through-out the house.
She is looking forward to starting preschool again in the Fall.

Jacob is such a sweet spirited boy. He's our little cuddle bug. His favorite sayings are, "What's that?" "Thanks!" Where'd it go?" "Snack?" "Mom!" "Dad!" "Maddie!" He adores TRUCKS and will point out everyone of them on the road, parked in a parking lot, in the driveway etc... He even sleeps with his trucks! He our little vegetarian.
He so enjoys veggies and fruit. Just like his sister he loves to dance and sing...especially in front of the camera.

We are so blessed with these two little sweetie pies!

Ryan had no idea that as he stepped out his apartment door towards the Civic Center's farmers market in downtown San Francisco; he would meet the girl of his dreams. He strolled through the many vendors selling their organic goods and as he rounded the corner of an aisle he raised his eyes and there she was selling apples...

Ryan could hardly take his eyes off of Jenna! He had to introduce himself. Over time, with the help of his witty and cunning manner, Ryan persuaded Jenna to let him take her to a spot in San Francisco where she could over-look the whole city, Twin Peaks. She agreed... and they have been visiting "their spot" over and over again ever since.

On July sixth, not only did Ryan and Jenna visit their favorite romantic spot; they committed their lifes
to one another among their close friends and family.

I woke up Wednesday morning with a little headache...I thought nothing of it until I opened my mouth to talk to Kurt and a frog tone came out from deep within. "Whooah!" I said with a smile. "I sound like Barry White. Ohhh Yeah." That smile didn't last long and I found myself sniffling, sneezing and napping on and off through out the next few days in a blurry comatose state. Thank God for Kurt! I couldn't have done it without him! Thank you sweetie.

I never get sick. But when I do...I really DO! Vicks is right and my lifesaver, "The sniffling, sneezing, stuffy head so you can rest medicine or get your work done." Now I am on the up and up and so glad to be back among the living.

Last week I had an wonderful family session with Thad, Carrie, Matt, James and Jonathan. This is the first time in many years that the four of them have have had family photos done. Matt has been traveling and producing an HD adventure-travel series called Jet Set Zero. The filming is about a team of young Americans who start with zero dollars and try to travel the world.
How cool is that!

If you asked Kyle about Alex he would simply state, "She is my everything!" He knew high up on Mount Ralston, where they first met hiking, that there was something about her... something that drove him to know her more. And here they are: best friends and soul mates for life. "Kyle is the man of my dreams," Alex whispered..."I can't wait to marry him."

We decide on Boger Winery as our first stop in capturing some lovely photographs. Not only is Boger a beautiful vineyard but in September it will be Alex and Kyle's ceremony site.

Ok, this next set of pictures needs an explanation...We had just started photographing near the barn when we heard a faint "tink and a slide" sound on the metal roofing above...see Alex looking up in the first picture. Well, that red circle is ummm let's just call him MR. LIZARD! Mr. Lizard decided to literately drop in on our photo shoot. He landed right on top of Alex's head, hit the ground and then scurried off (red circle picture two) to the sounds of Alex's squealing, "EEEWWWW!" Oh I would have done the same... I think Mr. Lizard took all the photo session jitters away though.

Then we drove into Placerville and walked down main street and found some wonderful light and scenery.

After our session we couldn't resist passing up the Hey Day Cafe so we stopped in for dinner and a few drinks.

As I drove up to Grass Valley for Sarah and Andre's wedding, I couldn't help imagining my family and I living there. Gorgeous! The rolling foothills called to me... and the small downtown with its cute shops and bistro restaurants on every corner…was my kind of rural living!

It became even better when I arrived at Miller's Pond where the ceremony was going to occur. In the center of the Miller’s Farm; among the grazing sheep lies a beautiful pond surrounded by old oak trees. What a perfect setting! It was later that day, a few hours before sunset, Sarah and Andre exchanged vows surrounded by their close friends and family.

Sarah and Andre you are such a vivacious couple! I adore you both and your little Mary Jane. Best wishes to the two of you.

We woke up early...packed a picnic lunch and headed up to Empire Mine in Grass Valley for a day of fun. This state park is so worth the drive and is extremely beautiful. We strolled under the old fir trees and well groomed landscape, admired the craftsmanship of the lovely cottage and even had homemade ice cream on the lawn.

Then it was off to the mining zone. Here is a little bit of fun knowledge: five million-eight hundred thousand ounces of gold came from this one quartz vein! It took the miners and hour to get to the bottom of the mine which is a half a mile under sea level (straight down in a cart). Grass Valley sits at about 4000 in elevation!

Who would have known, that from a small wish of moving to America, she was able to accomplish so much more? Grandpa and her desired to dream the impossible and come to a world, far away from their family, to start a new life. She lived in a small home in New York and with an open heart she took in many friends and families who needed help establishing themselves also. She traveled across country, with children in tow, on a crowded bus so that as a family they could live in San Francisco. Also, four children were not enough and she had compassion for many others who were without parents. Her and Grandpa took foster children into their home and raised them as their own.

This is only a small glimpse of how her and Grandpa touched each of our lives and for me personally she has given me the gift of love. I experienced how she loved our family and Grandpa passionately, unconditionally and even when it hurt. Through this gift she enabled me to express to others, my family, my husband and my children the same undying love.

Grandma, you have inspired us all by example. Thank you for your love and compassion...we miss you deeply.

Pomegranate Salon | Davis Commercial Salon Photographer

I had the thrill of photographing a group of talented hair stylists and some of their clients this last week. Pomegranate Salon is an up beat-cutting edge salon located in Davis, California. When walking into the salon you are gingerly greeted by Kai and Stella, the salon's cutest and sweetest doggies. The staff is brilliant and I know first hand that when I try to describe what I want my hair to look like, they are always able to interpret my babble and flailing hands, "I really like Katherine blah blah's hair cut but with shorter bangs and longer layers..." and then BAM! I always leave thinking that I HAVE to go out on the town because my hair looks amazing!

So when Stacia, the owner of the salon, asked if I would photograph for their new location, I was thrilled. It was American's Next Top Model, Davis, CA. Pomegranate Salon fabulous new location will open the beginning of April on D Street in downtown Davis.

Facebook is an amazing tool! You can network with new and old friends, share silly quizzes and catch up on years of time lost with old friends. Lizzi is one of those friends. We went to high school together and through Facebook and tagging old class pictures we caught up on the past fifteen years.

Come to find out Lizzi was in the Navy as a photographer for seven years. How cool is that! Now that she is home we had to get together and shoot some fun portraits of one another.

Yesterday I was in Starbucks drive through with my kids and couldn't help but see the large silver construction truck in from of me was for sale. I remember reading the phone number 676.... can't remember the rest. As I drove up to the window to pay for my coffee...Maddie's milk and a treat she REALLY wanted, the barista explained that the man in front of me paid for my order! I have heard of this happening but never to me. Well of course I paid for the lady behind me but that didn't compare to how I felt the rest of the day. What a fabulous day! Cloud Nine. Now, if I could remember the rest of that thoughtful construction guy's number I would call him and thank him for making me smile and paying it forward!

Child Photography on Display | News

The coffee house is now under new ownership and Sheryl has created a relaxing and wonderful atmosphere. Our little Jacob turned one in January and last week I was able to take his milestone photos. The weather has been a bit crazy so it was fun to get out and shoot around town and play at the park during the break in the rain. Madelyn and Daddy came also!

As I photographed and played with Justen this past weekend I couldn't help thinking of how fast our kids grow. In a blink of an eye they transform from tiny sweet peanuts, to cute-babbling toddlers and so on. It reminded me to cherish every moment with my little ones... Let's remember to drink in their sweet baby smell, take all the cuddles we can get and hold their excited babbles deep in our souls forever.

If you follow my twitter you probably have seen a great deal of "Mariea Rummel is album designing." Oh, and I have been! I really enjoy album work. It's more then just coordinating my images in a creative and contemporary way.... it's seeing my bride and groom's eyes light up and glisten with emotion while they hold tightly to their heirloom keepsake and with each page that is turned a new expression comes across their face. You can see it within them, they are reliving their wedding day. That is when I know I have accomplished my goal as a photographer. I love my job!

What a perfect day we had on Saturday. The sky was over cast (photographer's dream weather) as we played at the park with Ella for her nine month session. She showed off her new tricks of waving, standing and taking a few steps... She even showed me her new teeth. Thank you Ella Bean!

Happy Valentine's Day | Personal

I hope all of you had a wonderful Valentine's day! Our family sure did. I try not to shoot a wedding over Valentine's because Kurt and I celebrate our anniversary on the 15th. We combine Valentine's and our anniversary all into one...it's much more fun that way.

Tonight we decided to hang out at home with the kids and celebrate. We all dressed up in our "fancy clothes" turned on some dancing music and tried out Nob Hill's ultimate Valentine's dinner for two (more like three or four). It was awesome!

We ordered our dinner a few days ago through Raleys and it came with:
Course One- Baked Brie with Fig Spread
Course Two- Spring Salad with cranberries and served with bread
Course Three- Filet Mignon topped with crab and Bearnaise sauce, served with asparagus and mashed potatoes
Course Four- Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

All of this for under $50.00!
They even give you preparation and presentation directions.
We will for sure do this one again... Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope that this new year finds you well and extremely happy!
This past week we took a little family vacation down to Ventura, California to visit family. Most importantly GG. GG is Great Grandma, who this year turned 90! What a special time we had with her. We can learn so much from our older generations. So, if your parents or grandparents are still with you make it a point to kiss them and have them tell you stories of their youth. Then, hold onto those sweet words forever...

Tara + Ben | Placerville Engagement Session

Tara met her new co-workers as she made her rounds with the office manager. She had no idea that her future husband would be sitting at a desk not far from her own. After weeks of glances and small talk Tara invited Ben to join her softball team and the rest is history.
The three of us meet up for coffee and wedding details and then jetted over to Coloma for some chilly-outdoor engagement session fun. I am so excited for their upcoming wedding in Santa Rosa, California.

Coloma! Where gold was discovered by James Marshall on January 24, 1848. We embarked Saturday morning on a family trip (30 mins away) to Christmas in Coloma. It was a beautiful chilly day and the smell of chestnuts roasting on the campfire intermingled with the music of the three fiddler players as we strolled through the small town's main street. A few giggles of glee steered us towards the man himself. Santa and Mrs. Claus. Madelyn sat up on his lap, knowing her list by heart. She was ready to tell him...Jacob on the other hand was a little apprehensive of this funny looking man with a beard.

I remember as a child when my mom or dad were frustrated they would say,"...Jessica...Hannah...Noah....whatever your name is come here." Imagine having a family of not only all four children but everyone's name starts with a J!

Let me introduce you to Josh, Jessica, Jalen, Jorden, Jasen and Justen .... whee I think I got that right. If you follow my blog you have probably seen a bit of them throughout. They are so patience with me because as I photograph them and go to call one of the boys and I have to pause and say, "Don't tell me.....Jalen...right?"
